Matthew 5: The teaching on the mountain, and an oath sworn by Jerusalem
Read it →Seeing the crowds, Jesus goes up on the mountain, sits down, and teaches his disciples (5:1-2): the blessings, salt and light, the Law and the Prophets, anger, adultery, divorce, oaths, retaliation and love of enemies. The chapter does not name the mountain. The one place it names is Jerusalem, in the teaching on oaths: do not swear by it, "for it is the city of the great King" (5:35).
