Matthew 4: The temptation, and Jesus makes his home in Capernaum by the sea
Read it →Jesus is led into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil, who takes him to the holy city and sets him on the pinnacle of the temple. When he hears that John has been arrested he withdraws into Galilee, leaves Nazareth and lives in Capernaum by the sea, in the territory of Zebulun and Naphtali, as Isaiah had said. Walking by the Sea of Galilee he calls Simon Peter and Andrew, then James and John, and he goes throughout all Galilee teaching and healing. His fame spreads through all Syria, and crowds follow him from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea and beyond the Jordan.

Verses 13 and 15: Capernaum is "in the territory of Zebulun and Naphtali", and Isaiah's words name "the land of Zebulun". It is the old tribal territory of Zebulun in Galilee.
a tribal territory with no point in the gazetteer, so no site is plotted

Verses 15 and 25: Isaiah's words name the land "beyond the Jordan", and crowds follow Jesus from beyond the Jordan. The pin is the gazetteer's point on the lower Jordan, east of Jericho.

Verse 25: great crowds follow him from the Decapolis, among other places. It was a group of towns, mostly east of the Jordan and south and east of the Sea of Galilee.
a league of cities, not one place; the gazetteer's point is only representative
