Matthew 17: Down from the mountain, through Galilee to Capernaum
Read it →Jesus takes Peter, James and John up a high mountain, which Matthew does not name, and is transfigured before them with Moses and Elijah. Coming down, he heals a boy his disciples could not heal. As they gather in Galilee he tells them again that the Son of Man will be killed and raised on the third day, and when they come to Capernaum he sends Peter to the sea to find the two-drachma tax in a fish's mouth.

Where Jesus and the disciples are gathering when he tells them a second time that he will be killed and raised (17:22). Matthew names the region, not a town in it.
the region as a whole; the gazetteer's representative point falls on the lake's west shore
Where the collectors of the two-drachma tax come to Peter, and where Jesus speaks to him in the house (17:24-25). The gazetteer puts it at Tell Hum (860 votes) on the north shore of the lake; Khirbet Minyeh is listed with none.
Today: Tell Hum, on the north shore of the Sea of Galilee
Jesus tells Peter to go to "the sea" and cast a hook for the fish with a shekel in its mouth (17:27); from Capernaum that is the Sea of Galilee. All 500 gazetteer votes go to the lake.
Today: Sea of Galilee (Lake Kinneret), northern Israel (representative point)
