Jesus speaks to the crowds and his disciples against the scribes and Pharisees who sit on Moses' seat, and pronounces seven woes on them, over oaths by the temple and its gold, tithes, cups, whitewashed tombs and the tombs of the prophets. He ends by lamenting over Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those sent to it, and tells it that its house is left to it desolate.
