Matthew 12: The sign of Jonah, and the men of Nineveh
Read it →On the Sabbath the disciples pluck grain in the grainfields, and Jesus answers the Pharisees with David in the house of God and the priests in the temple. He heals a man with a withered hand in their synagogue, withdraws when the Pharisees plot against him, and answers the charge that he casts out demons by Beelzebul. Asked for a sign, he offers only the sign of the prophet Jonah: the men of Nineveh, who repented at Jonah's preaching, will rise at the judgment and condemn this generation (12:39-41). Nineveh is the only place the chapter names; the towns where all this happens go unnamed.
