It will be found, on an examination of these promises separately, that they embrace all that God had committed to man, or to the nation of Israel, under responsibility to the Giver; but which had been forfeited either through weakness or wilfulness, and had been in this way stolen by Satan out of the hands which were incompetent to hold them.
